Managing Stress with Meditation

Stress.  At work stress may come when demands are made that conflict with the availability of time and resources.  At home stress may come when family members behave in ways that cause distress for themselves or others.  Stress also comes when financial demands outweigh financial resources.  There are many sources of stress in our lives, but they all have something in common: the need or desire to change people or circumstances that seem beyond our control.

solar-eclipse-151211_960_720How can we manage stress?  We may have some power to change our circumstances over time, but for the most part we cannot change the people who cause stress in our lives.  Sometimes we actually have the resources to change our circumstances, but feelings of being overwhelmed and powerless interfere with our ability to recognize our strengths and resources.

We may have heard that “meditation can help” but who has the time for that?  And we may have tried “sitting in silence” on our own and found it boring and frustrating.

When practiced effectively, meditation can help clear a path through the challenges of people, circumstance, and the feeling of helplessness.  Once our path is cleared of obstacles, we can more clearly see the strengths and resources that are available to us.

At Sunrise Meditation and Counseling we are blessed and happy to help people learn tools earth%20sunrise2needed for managing stress.  Our four part meditation series teaches skills for mind stabilization, letting go of stressful barriers to happiness and growth, increasing Spirituality, and exercising healthy compassion for others.

Our next set of four Meditation classes are being offered in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains beginning the weekend after Labor Day, Saturday September 10th.   Based on the book Christian Tantric Meditation Guide, we share techniques that have been in practice for thousands of years, presented in a manner consistent with Judeo-Christian Scripture and Practice.

20150530_081019This is an opportunity to experience Christian Tantric Meditation in a low cost short series of classes on four consecutive Saturdays.  The traditional Wellness based Christian Tantric Meditation protocol will be offered from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  And we will again be offering these Meditation classes from Recovery oriented perspective from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM.  Our location is in Sautee Georgia which is near Helen Georgia, about an hour from Gwinnett and about 1.5 hours from Metro Atlanta.

If you are worried that you may not be able to attend all four classes, no problem.  We can make up missed classes in later private or group sessions.  Walk in registrations are welcome, or visit our Workshops page and sign up on line, or call 678-358-8775.  Our rates are very reasonable, 20.00 per class.

Christian Tantric Wellness and Recovery Meditation Classes

We are happy to remind everyone that we will be offering a series of four Christian Tantric Meditation classes in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains beginning Saturday July 9th.   This is a rare opportunity to experience all four phases of the Christian Tantric Meditation protocol in a low cost short series of classes on four consecutive Saturdays.  The traditional Wellness based Christian Tantric Meditation protocol will be offered from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  And for the first time we will be offering these Meditation classes from Recovery oriented perspective from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM.  Our location is in Sautee Georgia which is near Helen Georgia, about an hour from Gwinnett and about 1.5 hours from Metro Atlanta.

FireworksBoth traditional Tantric Meditation techniques and Christian Contemplative perspectives are explored in the classes.  Our wellness meditation classes teach skills for dealing with stress and increasing enjoyment of life and personal freedom through letting go of negative thoughts and emotions.    Classes also explore increasing Spirituality and exercising Compassion with healthy boundaries for self and others.  People who are new to meditation and people who are experienced with meditation find our classes helpful.

People who attend our recovery oriented meditation classes learn about the disease aspects of youth-570881_1280addiction, and tools for building self awareness in recovery.  Classes will also explore emotions management, healthy relationships, and long term recovery strategies.  Note that these classes are intended for people and family members actively engaged in recovery.

Walk in registrations are welcome, or visit our Workshops page and sign up on line, or call 678-358-8775.  Our rates are very reasonable, 20.00 for a class.

Spirituality and Meditation

As a counselor, when I talk with people about meditation, it is often in therapeutic terms. Learning how to relax, letting go of burdens that hold us back, and living mindfully and in the moment can help a person to be resilient in the face of day to day stresses.

cropped-20141025_163721_1.jpgThe process of self emptying not only allows us to let go of burdens and stresses, it also helps us to open a space within ourselves to receive Divine Energy that is beyond our 5 senses’ ability to perceive. In other words, self emptying meditation can increase our capacity for Spirituality. It’s often hard to see, hear, smell, taste, or feel anything with our five physical senses when we are burdened and stressed. When we have difficulty processing input from our physical senses our ability to perceive Spirituality is doubly impaired.

What is Spirituality? We often hear people say they are ‘Spiritual, not religious”, but what does that mean? For most people it means that we are in touch with something beyond ourselves, something that motivates, something that heals, something that inspires us to care for ourselves and for others. Jewish Scripture says God “breathed the breath of life into dust” (Gen 2:7) in creating humanity, in that sense Spirit is the breath energy that gives us life.

Spirituality can help “fill in the empty places” that are left behind when harmful thoughts or habits are challenged. Spirituality, connection with one’s inner strength and Higher Power, can help a person to move forward with a sense of fulfillment rather than emptiness and need.

Many people witness to “feeling the Spirit” as motivation for changing course when traveling, or floating-bonsaiin life. When they pay attention to this feeling, they find that they avoid major accidents or problems. In this sense, being “receptive to Spirit” can be part of maintaining one’s safety and well being.

“Divine Communion” meditation is used to help develop one’s sense of inner strength, and to invite one’s Higher Power to dwell within and be a part of our day to day lives. With a clear mind, open heart, and empty core that comes from “Self Emptying” practice, “Divine Communion” can help fulfill in a way that physical thoughts and activities and even relationships cannot.

1338259321With this in mind we are announcing the opening of our phase 2 classes covering “Self Emptying” practices on Saturday September 12th.  The morning session will cover “Freeing the mind and heart of harmful desires and resentments”, and the afternoon session will cover “Freeing the Core of Fears and Opening Self to Bliss”. Eventually we we will begin opening phase 3 “Divine Communion” classes.

We are also opening additional phase 1 classes on August 22nd, which introduce foundational practices of mindfulness and open consciousness. If you have been thinking about attending and would like the opportunity to move forward quickly through phase 1 and then phase 2 on September 12th, now is the time to register. All classes are open for repeat attendance if participants want to refresh and share experiences with others, but phase 1 classes must be completed before participating in phase 2.

The warm response and interest that Sunrise Meditation and Counseling has received has been very gratifying. This blog is being posted to answer a few questions that have come up about the practice and the location.

Why Sautee Georgia?  Why not closer to Atlanta?

Sautee is a beautiful and peaceful environment conducive to healing and restoration.

There is value in engaging in Workshops and therapy some distance from one’s home. Depending on where in the Atlanta Metro area a person is coming from, the drive can take as little as 1 hour and 15 minutes on a weekend. I’ve personally spent more time in traffic during rush hour in Atlanta trying to travel just a few miles. And, our “Visiting Sautee” page gives directions to avoid the tourist backup that can accumulate approaching Helen.

I personally engage in Spiritual Direction on a monthly basis, and my Spiritual Director is located on the Southeast side of Atlanta. I find that the drive there provides an opportunity to consider my motivation and needs, and the drive back is an opportunity to reflect on the session experience and how it applies to my life.

Why individual Workshops? Why not full weekend retreats?

Many people want to “get away” but can’t engage in an entire weekend or even an overnight activity. We offer a weekend “day trip” option. Our “Visiting Sautee” web page offers pointers to local lodging and scenic attractions if a person or couple wants to create their own “retreat weekend” that includes Workshops or Therapy. We also offer a discount on single day back to back workshops so a person can enjoy multiple workshops in a day if they choose.

Is there any way to get Christian Tantric Meditation Workshops closer to Atlanta?

Meditation or Recovery Workshops can be provided for groups of people at a location of their choosing evenings during the week. Workshops have been provided for groups in private homes, and have been discussed with Church groups. Call us at 678-358-8775 for more information if you are part of a group who has an interest.
